When describing Moroccan rugs, the word classic and timeless comes up a lot, and that is for a reason. In this rug-loving community, we all know by now how special Moroccan rugs are, in terms of their ancestral weaving techniques, their impeccable quality, their design variety, and also their historic aspect.
So when getting hold of such a valuable interior design item, it is wise to learn how to take care of it and keep it in pristine condition for it to turn into a loved vintage piece that can be kept and passed down to the next generation. Again they are timeless.
If you are a happy owner of a special Moroccan rug you wish to keep forever, or if you are looking into buying one and want to maintain it and keep it looking at its best. Then please keep reading our rough guide of dos and don't when it comes to Moroccan rugs.
It is recommended to regularly and gently clean the rugs to avoid the buildup of dust and other particles, especially in high-traffic areas. Think of lightly vacuuming your Moroccan rug, preferably on a daily basis in a gentle setting without any bristle attachment to avoid tugging.
If you happen to have a food-related accident or some kind of spillage on your precious rugs, spot clean the area using a damp cloth, and be careful to only dab the spot in question without rubbing it to avoid transferring the stain onto the clean areas.
Because of their natural fabric composition, Moroccan rugs tend to absorb odors, and no matter how careful you are dust, crumbs and other particles find their way to settle or even cling to your rug. in those areas your gentle vacuum can't reach. Especially when it comes to high-pile rugs!
A great tip that local Moroccan rug vendors swear by is hanging the rugs out in the open! First, of all, they get refreshed with the natural air which gets rid of any odors and keeps the natural fabrics looking great. Secondly, the hanging allows for all dust and unwanted crumbs to simply fall off little by little. If you want to accelerate the process simply give your rug a gentle beating and watch it all comedown!
This tip is specific but it is worth the mention in case your colorful rug is in an area that gets uneven sun exposure. If that is the case, it means that part of your rug gets regular sun exposure which can gradually wash off the natural colors of your rug while the hidden part of your rug gets none and remains the same.
Granted, that beautiful subtle discoloration can make your rug even lovelier but it can be an issue when your rug as a whole has an uneven look. So when you are cleaning, think of rotating your rug every month or so to make sure the colors stay homogenous.
These are some of our tips to keep your precious Moroccan rugs looking amazing for a long time. If you still haven't got one and you are looking to add a special rug to your space, please check our store of authentic Moroccan rugs here.
