Hand-made in the heart of the Moroccan Atlas mountains, the famous traditional rugs come in various designs, color palettes, and tribal patterns representing the cultural heritage of their makers.
Because of the ancestral know-how and the incredible sentimental element involved in the carpet weaving practice, each tribal region of the country has naturally developed a distinct rug weaving technique with specific patterns and design details that are unique to them.
This diversity and strong sense of purpose gave birth to a rich variety of rug designs that will certainly satisfy many interior tastes and aesthetics.
Let's dive into some of the different available styles of Moroccan rugs while learning more about their meaningful origins and the fascinating background of their weavers.
The term Beni Ouarain is commonly and wrongfully thought of as an aesthetic design, while in reality, it does refer to the different 17 Berber tribes living in the Moroccan Atlas mountain region.
The cultural diversity of the different tribes gave the Beni Ourrain rugs a subtle and yet fascinating distinction in the patterns and elements of their design compared to other carpet styles.
It could be argued that the friendly dose of rivalry between the neighboring tribes is the motivation behind the impeccable quality of Beni-Ourrain rugs as they are known for their superior wool quality and refined classic designs which earned them the well-deserved title of "The Noble Rugs".

The Zayanes are a large Berber tribe dwelling in the region of Khenifra, in the central Middle Atlas mountains of Morocco. Historically, the Zayane tribes are known for their physical tenacity and strong attachment to their ancestral land and heritage, and of course their skilled crafts.
Typically, the rugs made in the region come in larger sizes using bold color combinations and more original patterns requiring longer weaving hours which translates the strength and tenacious spirit of the proud tribe.
What adds to the uniqueness of the Zayane rugs, is the use of a specific weaving method called "double-pile", or "reverse-pile" which is considered to be a labor-intensive rug constructing technique contributing to the softness and longevity of the carpets.

The unique Boucherwite design came to life thanks to the ingenuity of Berber women. In fact, the recognizable style was born out of the basic need of efficiently utilizing all the available materials to provide warmth and survive the harsh winter conditions.
The Boucherwite rugs are made with recycled wool and all sorts of fabrics giving them an original patchwork look. This design feature that first originated out of necessity somehow managed to become an artistic statement and a creative outlet combining both practicality and resourcefulness.
